Tuesday was senior night for Jaxson Jensen on the Siuslaw Vikings soccer team, but it was brother Dylan who had the big day.

Dylan scored the Vikings' lone goal in a 6-1 loss to visiting Marshfield. Earlier in the day, Dylan was an honorable mention Coast Radio athlete of the week for his efforts on the Siuslaw cross country team.

Jaxson (3) and Dylan (2) had half of the Vikings' 10 shots in the first half. Dez Anderson had three and Jason Garcia 2.

"We controlled the ball during the first 20 minutes of the game," Siuslaw coach Londi Tomaro said. "Our midfield and forwards passed the ball very well and applied pressure on the Marshfield goal.

"We had ten shots in the first half. Unfortunately, they were either off mark — 5 — or blocked by the goalkeeper — 5."

Meanwhile, Marshfield got off only nine shots, but four found the net as the Pirates build a 4-0 halftime lead.

Vikings goalkeeper Kayden Lane had 15 saves in the game, including 11 in the second half.

"Our team continued passing well for the most part and kept exerting offensive pressure on the Marshfield goal," Tomaro said. "We only broke into the box for shots four times (in the second half), but we did connect for a goal.

"There was a great series of passes from Yoskar De La Mora on the outside to Daniel Paasch in the middle and back out and forward to Dylan Jensen, who was able to touch in forward and into the net past the goalkeeper. The other three shots were taken by Jaxson Jensen, Jason Garcia, and Derrick Vanduch."

Tuesday was the final home match of the regular season for Siuslaw, 1-6 in the Sky-Em League and overall in the Vikings' first season at the varsity level.

Siuslaw plays at Junction City on Thursday and at Elmira next Tuesday, awaiting a Culminating Week match for the final week.

"Although we lost this game, we feel good about our play and our ability to work the ball around the field playing a passing game," Tomaro said. "We look forward to continuing to improve through the rest of this season and into next fall."
