Lady Vikings sweep Elmira, improve to 4-3

Front-row standouts Desiree Tupua and Kya Blake each had long runs at service to lead the Siuslaw Vikings to a 3-0 sweep of the Elmira Falcons in a Sky-Em League volleyball match Thursday in Elmira.

Siuslaw won 25-23, 25-11, 25-14 to improve to 4-3 overall and in league.

The Vikings close their regular season with a pair of home matches, hosting Junction City on Tuesday and Cottage Grove next Thursday.

The Lady Falcons cut the gap to 24-14, but gifted Siuslaw match point with a serve into the net.

Tupua, a sophomore middle blocker, served during a 12-0 run in the second set. Elmira called timeout twice during the run trying to scheme against her.

The first set featured 13 ties as neither team could find its service groove. The Lady Vikings scored four of the final five points, the set point on a Blake kill.
