Siuslaw falls to first-place Junction City, 3-0


The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team will be battling for a third-place finish when they play the Marshfield Pirates at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday (March 31) at Reedsport Charter School in a Sky-Em League game.

The Lady Vikings fell into a tie for third place with Marshfield on Tuesday, losing at home to the first-place Junction City Tigers, 3-0.

Junction City, 8-1 in league and 10-1 overall, won 25-10, 25-19, 25-23.

The loss left Siuslaw and Marshfield at 4-4 in league.

The Lady Vikings finish league play Thursday, hosting Cottage Grove at Glenn Butler Court. First serve is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Lady Pirates return to Reedsport to host Junction City at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, the Lady Vikings worked hard to force a fourth set with a scrappy third set that featured 14 ties, the last at 23-23.

Siuslaw hit the ball into the net on match point after the Lady Pirates won the rally of the night to make it 24-23.

In the second set, Marshfield ran off the final eight points for the win. The set featured 10 ties, the last at 19-19.

The Lady Pirates dominated the opening set with runs of 9-0 and 7-0, the latter closing out win.
