Siuslaw resets season opener for April 20

Siuslaw senior Jaxson Jensen (foreground), done with soccer and soon with cross country, prepares for the track and field season.

The Siuslaw Vikings track and field team will have a tuneup for their Central Coast Invitational after all.

The Sky-Em League meet originally set for Tuesday, April 13, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 20, athletic director Chris Johnson announced Wednesday.

"We'll be ready by then," Johnson said.

Johnson announced this past Tuesday that April 13 was too soon for a meet.

"With other sports still going on, we just don't have enough kids who will be ready by then," he said.

Many of his runners are competing Saturday in the state cross country championships, while a number of his field events performers are playing football Friday against Sutherlin.

The CCI is Siuslaw's premier annual home meet.

This season, Hans Petersen Field will be the site of two other top events, the Sky-Em League Showcase, featuring the league's top athletes, and the Sky-Em League Championships.
