Marshfield pounded nine hits and took advantage of eight Siuslaw miscues to post a 13-2, five-inning victory over the Lady Vikings in Sky-Em League softball Tuesday at the Siuslaw field.

Siuslaw, 0-4, plays a doubleheader Friday at Marist Catholic.

Siuslaw junior shortstop Bailey Overton was 2-for-3 with a run, RBI and a double, the Lady Vikings' only extra-base hit.

"Bailey was the lone athlete with a base hit tonight to lead to any scoring," Siuslaw coach Sean O'Mara said. "She (also) scored a run to account for all of our scoring.

"The remainder of the team struggled tonight to get on base despite frequently making contact with the ball."

Kaylin Dea was 3-for-3 with 5 RBIs and 2 doubles to lead the Lady Pirates.

Marshfield jumped on Siuslaw for two runs in the top of the first inning and added five more in the second for a 7-0 lead.

Siuslaw cut the lead to 7-2 with two runs in the bottom of the third, but Marshfield responded with six in the top of the fourth and the game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Junior Maggie Manning and freshman Cate Waggoner shared pitching duties, with Manning giving up 13 runs, 6 earned, on 9 hits and a walk in 3.2 innings.

"Overall, the Vikings continue to develop their skills and softball IQ," O'Mara said. "Each game the coaching staff is seeing positive growth from the team as athletes continue to learn about the game as it is played on the high school varsity level."
