Junction City defeats Siuslaw in 6, 13-3

The Junction City Tigers pounced on the Siuslaw Vikings for five runs in the top of the first inning Tuesday and rolled to a 13-3, six-inning Sky-Em League baseball victory at Jiggs Dodson Field.

Siuslaw, 1-5, hosts Cottage Grove in a doubleheader Friday. First pitch is 3 p.m.

"I though we hit the ball well tonight," Siuslaw coach Tom Shinn said. "Eight hits is a season high for us.

"We had some balls that were well hit that ended up right at Junction City players."

Sophomore Ian Sissel was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored, senior Elijah Blankenship 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and 2 stolen bases and junior Beau Erickson 1-for-4 with a run, RBI and 2 stolen bases.

Blankenship doubled to lead off the bottom of the second and was immediately singled home by Erickson, who later scored to shave the Tigers' lead to 5-2.

Junction City expanded its lead with a run in the third, four in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Siuslaw scored on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth, but failed to score again and the 10-run rule was enforced.

"Avoiding the big inning early will be a key come Friday when we take on Cottage Grove," Shinn said.

Junction City improved to 5-2 and shares second place in league with Marshfield. Marist Catholic leads at 7-0.
