Marshfield sweeps past Siuslaw, 9-4, 7-5


 

The Siuslaw Vikings baseball season is down to senior night at home Tuesday and a doubleheader Saturday, May 15, at Junction City.

Friday, the Vikings lost both ends of a doubleheader at Marshfield, 9-4 and 7-5.

The losses dropped Siuslaw to 1-11 overall and in the Sky-Em League.

Marshfield is 8-4 and 8-4.

"We were in both games from start to finish," Siuslaw coach Tom Shinn told Coast Radio. "We played some good defense. I thought we did a good job of making good plays.

"We're getting better every chance we get. But you want to get better and get the W."

In the nightcap, Jason Garcia was 2-for-4 with a run and a double, Elijah Blankenship was 1-for-2 with 2 runs, an RBI, a double and a steal, Beau Erickson 1-for-4 with a run and Clay Kramer 1-for-4 with a run.

In the opener, Erickson was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, 3 stolen bases and an RBI.

Siuslaw had seven stolen bases in the game, with Ian Sissel 2 and Blankenship and Garcia 1 each.

Garcia was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Tuesday, the Viking host Marist at 5 p.m., with a celebration of the seniors 10 minutes prior to gametime.

Siuslaw closes its season with a doubleheader at noon Saturday, May 15, at Junction City.
