HOF will wait to 2022 to honor Class of 2020

The Siuslaw Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2020 is still much accomplished, but it will have to wait another year to be officially honored.

"I'm sad to announce that due to covid-19 numbers, we are postponing the Hall of Fame Induction again this summer," HOF spokesman Chris Johnson said Tuesday.

"The individuals and teams who were selected in 2020 will be inducted in August of 2022 in conjunction with the (Siuslaw Athletic) Booster Club auction."

Three individuals and six state championship teams were scheduled to be honored Aug. 7, 2020, with a dinner-induction at the Florence Events Center, but was canceled because of the pandemic.

The 10th class will include six teams and three individuals — football player Robert Dimick (Class of 1975), golfer Jesse Schutte (2006) and basketball player Ben Voogd (2005).

Dimick was a (Portland) Oregonian first-team all-state running back in 1974, the year the Vikings went 10-2 and finished second in state. He also was a two-year starter at point guard on the basketball team and at second base on the baseball team.

Schutte won individual state golf titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Voogd is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,853 points.

Schutte and Voogd were elected to the hall of fame in 2019, but requested their inductions be delayed due to scheduling conflicts. They may set another record for delayed induction.

Teams to be inducted include girls cross country (2004, 2005, 2006), boys cross country (2004), football (2006) and golf (2005).
