Vikings' Hayden Muller advances to state

Siuslaw junior wrestler Hayden Muller had four pins in five matches Friday to place third in the OSAA Girls South Regional at Cottage Grove.

Muller pinned Bend freshman Jessie McIver in 3 minutes, 23 seconds in the third-place match at 140 pounds.

Vikings freshman Madison Petterson was 1-2 in the tournament at 125 pounds and did not place.

Muller opened with pins in the first round and the quarterfinals, but lost by pin to Averie Stockwell of Thurston in the semifinals.

Muller bounced back to win her consolation semifinal by fall before beating McIver.

Petterson's win was a pin of South Albany's Odessa Gordon in 2:35 in the first round of consolation.

Junior Arrianna Brown was entered at 125 but did not compete.

Siuslaw finished in a tie for 23rd in the 53-school field with 25 points. Thurston was first with 209, North Salem second with 115.5 and McKay third with 111.

Muller advances to next week's state championships.
