Friday's third meeting of the season was a charm for the Newport Cubs against the Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team.

The Cubs (5-5) captured their own holiday tournament with a 56-41 victory over the Vikings (5-4).

Siuslaw won the two earlier meetings this season 60-43 (at Newport) and 62-60 (in Florence).

South Umpqua (5-2) beat Taft (3-8) in the consolation final, 72-56.

The Vikings play Sutherlin (1-7) Tuesday at Sutherlin. Tipoff is 7 p.m.

Siuslaw will play Sky-Em/Skyline Crossover games this coming Friday and Saturday in Grants Pass to complete its preleague schedule.
