Vikings seek to milk a win at Cheesemakers

The Tillamook Cheesemakers baseball team has won just one nonleague game this season.

The Siuslaw Vikings plan to keep it that way when they visit today for an OSAA Class 4A play-in game at Randy Schild Field in Tillamook.

First pitch is 5 p.m. Coast Radio (FM106.9) will carry the game beginning at 4:45 p.m. The Vikings also hope to make the game available on Facebook Live.

The forecast at gametime is for mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-50s.

The Cheesemakers enter the play-in round 9-10, with eight of those wins in the Cowapa League. Their one nonleague win was 8-6 on March 24 at Madras.

The Vikings are 10-15, with five league wins and five nonleague wins. Siuslaw won four of seven games to close the regular season and clinch a play-in berth.

Newport got an early jump in the play-in round Thursday, beating visiting Phoenix in five innings, 10-0.

Siuslaw-Tillamook is one of four play-in games Friday, with the final three play-in games Saturday.

The eight play-in winners will be reseeded for the 4A championship bracket, with the first round Wednesday against the top eight teams in state.
