The South Coast All-Stars thumped the Belgrade Bandits of Montana, 14-8, in Sunday's opening round of the Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth 14U Baseball Regional Tournament at Ferndale, WA.

South Coast, which features five players from Florence, plays the AAA Longhorns of Alberta, Canada, at 10 a.m. Monday. Pool play continues through Thursday, with the championship bracket Friday.

South Coast plays host Whatcom (County) Prep, WA, on Tuesday, has a bye on Wednesday and plays Longview, WA, on Thursday.

Ten teams are in the regional, playing in two pools of five. The top two teams from each pool advance to Friday's championship bracket, which include semifinals and the championship game.

The regional champion advances to the 14U Babe Ruth World Series, Aug. 13-20, in Williston, ND.

Siuslaw players on the South Coast team include Collin Barnett, Micah Blankenship, Jacob Mann, Zak Nilles and Jordan Pitcher.

The team is coached by Mike Blankenship, John Pitcher, Elijah Blankenship and Michael Pitcher.

South Coast Babe Ruth serves Florence, Coos Bay, North Bend, Coquille, Myrtle Point, Reedsport and Bandon.
