South Coast suffers its first loss at regional

The South Coast All-Stars will face a must-win game Thursday, the final day of pool play in the Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth Baseball 14U Regional Tournament at Ferndale, WA.

South Coast is 2-1 in pool play following Tuesday night's 12-1 loss to host Whatcom (County) Prep. South Coast has a bye today while the other four teams in its pool continue play.

Whatcom Prep is 3-0 and all but assured one of the pool's two berths in Friday's championship bracket.

South Coast caps pool play Thursday against Longview, WA, which is 1-1 entering today's games. Longview likely would get the second championship berth with a win against South Coast.

South Coast would need a win whether Longview is 1-2 or 2-1 entering their pivotal game Thursday.

The first tiebreaker is head-to-head competition. Then its fewest runs allowed. Then run differential with a maximum of 10 per game.

The regional champion advances to the 14U Babe Ruth World Series, Aug. 13-20, in Williston, ND.

South Coast has five Siuslaw players on its roster — Collin Barnett, Micah Blankenship, Jacob Mann, Zak Nilles and Jordan Pitcher.

The team is coached by Mike Blankenship, John Pitcher, Elijah Blankenship and Michael Pitcher.

South Coast Babe Ruth serves Florence, Coos Bay, North Bend, Coquille, Myrtle Point, Reedsport and Bandon.
