Exploding Whale Sports, featuring sports and recreation in the Florence, Oregon, area, launched Monday, Aug. 17, in advance of the Siuslaw High School fall sports season.

The new website will include stories, photos, schedules, statistics, announcements and more, with the content largely dependent on the support and goodwill of the people who live in or near the coastal community.

"The goal is to augment the coverage of the town's fine local paper, the Siuslaw News," says Stan Pusieski, who recently moved to Florence and is developing the site with the assistance of ScoringLive.com, a highly successful prep web presence in Hawaii.

"Send us your press releases, your story ideas, your great photos of people at play, and we will try our best to get the word out. This is a great community, and sports and recreation plays a part in that."
