COOS BAY — Setter Shaylynn Jensen had nine kills and 23 assists Tuesday as the Marshfield Pirates clinched a share of the Far West League girls volleyball title with a sweep of the Siuslaw Vikings.
Marshfield, 7-0 in league and 16-0 overall, won by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 25-13.
Siuslaw, 7-6 overall, fell into a second-place tie with South Umpqua, both teams 4-3 in league.
In other matches, South Umpqua won at North Bend 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-11, 15-12), and Douglas routed visiting Brookings-Harbor 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-10).
North Bend and Douglas share fourth place at 3-4 in league, with Brookings-Harbor 0-7.
Brookings-Harbor visits Siuslaw on Thursday, with the junior varsity match at 5 p.m., and the varsity match to follow, sometime after 6 p.m.
North Bend is at Marshfield and Douglas at South Umpqua in other matches.
Tuesday's match for Siuslaw appeared to slip away in the second game, when the Vikings held a 19-11 lead only to see the Pirates rally.
"We blocked well in the second game," Siuslaw coach Angie Herring said.
For the Vikings, junior Elyssa Rose had 8 kills and 3 blocks, freshman Makenzie York 4 kills and 3 blocks and senior Taylor Dotson 7 kills and 1 block.
McKenzie Allison had 7 kills, Kelsey Jackson and Gracie Brugnoli 6 each and Alex Locait 5 for Marshfield.
The Pirates can wrap up the league title with a victory over North Bend on Thursday.
League play ends next week.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13, Douglas is at Siuslaw, Marshfield at South Umpqua and North Bend at Brookings-Harbor.
On Thursday, Oct. 15, Siuslaw is at North Bend, Marshfield at Douglas and South Umpqua at Brookings-Harbor.
Tuesday, setter Molly Lavin-Williams had 22 assists and 8 digs for Douglas. Ashley David had 9 kills and Darian Mitchell 7.
