Mans 11th, Siuslaw girls 6th at invitational


Junior Celie Mans finished 11th overall in the girls varsity gold division Saturday to lead the Siuslaw Vikings to a sixth-place finish in the George Fox Cross Country Classic at Willamette Mission State Park near Brooks.

Mans finished the 5,000-meter event in 18 minutes, 30.69 seconds, her best time in six races this season.

Olivio Brooks of Summit won in 17:45.11.

Camas took the team title with 46 points, followed by Summit with 77, Sheldon with 92, Mountain View with 120 and Oregon City with 184. North Bend, the only other Far West League team in the field, was 13th in the 14-school field with 290.

Also scoring for the Vikings were Morgan Bingham, 37th in 19:44.10; Kaeli Ramos, 58th in 20:45.04; Destinie Tatum, 64th in 21:02.43, and Sierra Potter, 66th in 21:05.24.

Trinity Ramos was 87th in 21:54.43 and Mikaela Siegel 107th in 22:43.31.

Freshman Murray Bingham was 31st overall in 17:28.8 to lead the Siuslaw boys to 16th place in the varsity silver race with 412 points.

Tony Hooks of Sisters won in 16:22.0.

South Medford was first among 36 scoring shools with 95 points, followed by Glencoe with 196 and Hockinson with 218.

Siuslaw finishers included Isaac Griffes, 76th in 18:05.5; Jack Pickell, 96th in 18:22.8; Andrew Rannow, 109th in 18:36.1; Sean Burns, 124th in 18:51.5; Kyle King, 145th in 19:10.4, and Tyler Williams, 152nd in 19:13.7.

The cross country season is in its final stretch, starting with Thursday's Run for the Brownies at Sandpines Golf Links.

The Far West League championships are the following Thursday, Oct. 22, at Tugman State Park.

The state championships are Halloween Day, Saturday, Oct. 31, at Lane Community College in Eugene.
