What in the world is @SportsWhale?

Exploding Whale Sports is nearly two months old, with a clear mission, but not a clear path.

The mission, the goal, is to be a reliable community resource for sports and recreation topics in the Florence area.

Want to know how the home team, the Siuslaw Vikings, is doing? Go to ExplodingWhaleSports.com.

Interested in the gamut of local sports and recreation, from archery to ziplining? So is @SportsWhale.

To get us from here to there, we need help from you, and you and you.

We need notices, results, pictures, videos, calendar information. The list is endless.

Who is "we?"

Well, we're something of a two-person staff.

There's Stan. Recently retired after working more than 40 years in sports departments in Oregon and Hawaii. Living and loving life in Florence. Great town, great people. Amazing Viking family of kids, parents, teachers, coaches and administrators.

There's Ann. Recently retired managing editor for a university press. Living and loving life in Florence. She proofreads the stuff Stan writes. She has the tougher job, but is still paid the same. Nothing. (But we're doubling her salary next year.)

This is where the path becomes less clear. The next step. To paraphrase the late Yogi Berra, we have reached a fork in the road, and we need to take it.

To grow, we need you. ... To send information on your events. ... To follow up with results. ... To send photos and videos, if possible. (Vikings parents Kelly Potter and Rob Griffes have been generous in that regard.)

We wish you all the good things sports and recreation have to offer.
