Siuslaw hosts annual Run for the Brownies

The Run for the Brownies will be the final home meet for Siuslaw seniors Sierra Potter, Mikaela Siegel and Tyler Williams.

Runners must run in school uniforms but they won't be running for their schools Thursday at the annual 3,000-meter Run for the Brownies at Sandpines Golf Links in Florence.

Race time is 4:30 p.m. for the middle-school race and 5 p.m. for the high-school race.

Teams will be mixed and matched from Coquille, Myrtle Point, Reedsport, Toledo and host Siuslaw, and every runner scores.

If a team has 10 runners, all 10 will score.

Once teams are formed, they have an immediate responsibility: Agree on a team name.

The winning team not only gets bragging rights, but will win a plate of brownies to share.

The race will start and finish on hole No. 3. A course walk-through is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

No spikes are allowed for the event, which includes some moderate hills and runs along fairways and concrete cart paths.

Running in their final home race are Viking seniors Sierra Potter, Mikaela Siegel and Tyler Williams.

The race is the final event in advance of the Far West League championships, which are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, at Tugman State Park.

The state 4A championships are Halloween Day, Saturday, Oct. 31, at Lane Community College in Eugene.
