Ramos wins state meet, Johnson fifth


Siuslaw eighth-grader Zimri Ramos finished first and teammate Kiger Johnson fifth Sunday in the PDXC State Middle School Championships at the Hidden Creek Polo Club in West Linn.

Siuslaw had 10 boys and 10 girls competing in the Champs Heat 1 run. There were no official team scores, although athletics.net had hypothetical totals.

Ramos had the top time among 309 runners competing in Champs Heat 1, completing the 3,000 meters in 10 minutes, 45.38 seconds. Johnson ran 11:24.56.

Portland Waldorf eighth-grader Brendan Burkhart was second in 11:11.94.

Siuslaw placed third with a hypothetical score of 106 points to 73 by the PDXC Youth running Club and 102 by Happy Valley. The event listed hypothetical scoring for 25 teams for Champs Heat 1.

The Siuslaw girls were second place in a hypothetical scoring of 21 teams, with seventh-grader Brea Blankenship 10th overall in 12:54.24 and eighth-grader CaSandra Gardner 11th in 12:56.75.

Hazelbrook eighth-grader Taylor Cockrell had the top girls time of 12:19.25, while the PDXC Youth Running Club won the unofficial team title with 48 points to 92 by Siuslaw.
