Retired college coach Will Biggs has produced winning programs at both the high school and college level, and he gets his chance to work his magic at Siuslaw High School.

"I've been around the community, and optimism isn't high," Biggs said. "I'm more optimistic than anybody I know."

Biggs took the job in late September, succeeding Jack Butler, who stepped down after three seasons.

Siuslaw assistant football coach Jamin Pool will assume the same role with the boys' basketball program.

The Vikings open their season at home with a game against Coquille at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.

Siuslaw's first Far West League game is Friday, Jan. 15, at South Umpqua.

First league home game is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, against Marshfield.
