Waldport pulls away from Siuslaw, 52-43

The Waldport Irish outscored the Siuslaw Vikings 17-8 in the fourth quarter Wednesday to pull out a 52-43 nonleague boys basketball victory at Siuslaw.

The teams were tied at 35 after three quarters, the Vikings rallying from a 29-14 halftime deficit.

The loss left Siuslaw 0-9 for the season, while the senior-dominated 2A Irish are 5-3.

The Vikings have two Sky-West Crossover Tournament games to end both the week and preleague play.

Siuslaw plays Klamath Union on Friday and Phoenix on Saturday, both at Phoenix High School. The Vikings lost at Phoenix on Dec. 5, 55-38, in their second game of the season.

Siuslaw opens Far West League play on Friday, Jan. 15, at South Umpqua.

The Vikings' league home opener is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, against Marshfield.

COQUILLE 50, NORTH BEND 43: Coquille rallied from 15 points down in the second half to surprise the Bulldogs at North Bend in a nonleague game.
