Vikings upend Klamath Union, 48-44


 

Senior Sierra Potter connected on 4-of-5 shots from 3-point range and scored a team-high 14 points Saturday as the Siuslaw Vikings girls basketball team defeated the Klamath Union Pelicans, 48-44, in a Sky-West Crossover Tournament game at Douglas High School in Winston.

The win gave the Vikings a 1-1 tournament record and 3-8 overall record in the final tuneup for their Far West League opener Friday at South Umpqjua in Myrtle Creek.

Freshman Annabel Tupua added 9 points and sophomore Marika White 8 points for Siuslaw.

Vikings freshman Madison Reynolds had a team-high 12 rebounds.

Junior Destinie Tatum, the Vikings' leading scorer and rebounder, had 7 points and 7 rebounds before fouling out. Junior Abby Watkins and senior Taylor Dotson also fouled out in a game in which only eight Vikings played.

Once again the Vikings shot better from the field (.375 on 18 of 48) than from the free-throw line (.333 on 6 of 18).

After the league opener Friday, the Vikings host Marshfield at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19.
