Vikings get second life with Friday's game

For the Siuslaw Vikings' boys basketball team, the Far West League schedule offers a new lease on life.

The Vikings open league play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at South Umpqua in Myrtle Creek, still seeking that elusive first win of the season.

Siuslaw has a legitimate shot at a win based on the most-recent 4A ratings by the Oregon School Activities Association.

The Vikings (0-11) are rated No. 39 and the Lancers (6-7) No. 35 among the OSAA's 40 Class 4A schools.

Siuslaw's first home league game is Tuesday, Jan. 19, against Marshfield, currently rated No. 1 by the OSAA.

The Vikings have added another nonleague game, and will host Sweet Home at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. The game was postponed earlier in the season due to inclement weather.

Sweet Home, of the Sky-Em League, is currently 1-10 and rated No. 40 by the OSAA.
