Smith, Reisner win weekly bridge club game


James Smith and John Reisner scored a 13 Thursday to win the Florence Duplicate Bridge Club's weekly game at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

John Weatherwax and David Gustafson were second with an 11.5, while the teams of Roberta Parker-Kenneth Hampsten and Georgia Farman-Anna Hendershoot shared third with scores of 9.

Lloyd Little and Marilyn Buchanan were fifth with a 7.5.

The Florence club is Oregon Central Coast unit 572 of the American Contract Bridge League, which sanctions the weekly games.

Club play is usually 12:30 p.m. Thursdays at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 19th and Tamarack.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB NEEDS BASKETBALL REFEREES

Volunteer referees will be eligible for stipends for working the Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County basketball season, which begins Saturday, Jan. 30, for kindergarten through sixth grade.

Other Saturday dates include Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Two games are played at five time slots: 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

SIUSLAW BASEBALL ASSOCIATION ELECTS BOARD

Mike Blankenship has been elected president and Jeff Stinger vice-president of the Siuslaw Baseball Association.

Natalie Blankenship has been elected secretary and Kim Stinger treasurer.

Board members include Dirk Anderson, Suzy Barstow, Vanessa Buss, Dustin Circle, John Meier and Mike Sissel.
