The Siuslaw boys defeated Marshfield 378-335 Sunday in the championship match of the high school District 4 bowling state qualifying tournament at Firs Bowl in Eugene.

The Vikings, Pirates and Cottage Grove Lions all qualified for the state tournament Feb. 19-21 in Klamath Falls.

Siuslaw's girls finished third and advanced to state along with district champion Cottage Grove and runner-up North Bend.

Competition was in the Baker format. Each team has five members, who roll a single frame each in frames 1 through 5, then repeat in frames 6 through 10.

Teams bowl 20 Baker games of qualifying, with the top six boys and top six girls teams advancing to the semifinals.

Teams then bowl 10 Baker games in the semifinals, with the top three teams gaining the championship rolloff.

In the championship rolloff, the third-place team faces the second-place team in a two-game rolloff. The winner advances to bowl the first-place team in a two-game rolloff.

In the boys division, the Vikings were fourth after the opening round and third after the semifinals. Siuslaw defeated Cottage Grove, 409-314, in the championship semifinals, then beat top-seeded Marshfield, 378-335, in the finals.

In the girls division, the Vikings were third place after both the opening round and the semifinals. Cottage Grove defeated Siuslaw, 321-299, in the championship semifinals, then beat top-seeded North Bend, 339-296, in the finals.
