The Siuslaw Athletic Booster Club was in midseason form Monday night during its monthly meeting at the high school library.

"Two of our goals were accomplished," said Gina Castro-Brandt, the SABC president. "First, we wrote every high school sport a check.

"That was big to get those checks out."

The club also approved funding three new scoreboards for the middle school, two for the main gym and one for the auxiliary gym.

"That's been a club goal for a couple years, and it was great to check it off."

Monday's meeting was the club's best-attended meeting of the school year, with more than a dozen present.

Softball coach Sean O'Mara was present to thank the club for its support.

Baseball coach Tony Castro was present to request new uniforms for the baseball team, a request that got preliminary support.

Three-sport athlete Claire Waggoner was present in her role as vice-president of the school's Interact Club to request SABC support for new bottle-filling stations at the high school, including one in the main gym.

The Rotary Club's Lis Farm was present to support Waggoner, who is requesting funds from various sources, including the Western Lane County Foundation.

The SABC contribution will depend on how successful Waggoner is in securing those funds.

"We want to know we're not the only source of their money," said Castro-Brandt. "I believe the Interact Club has a good chance of achieving its goal."

In other business, the club, which has set aside $3,000 for scholarships, received a first-draft application form from Lynnette Holdahl and Kim Pickell, who head the club's scholarship committee.

The club hopes to have a procedure in place by March so that Siuslaw High School seniors can start the application process.

The club also approved $500 to help fund the annual Shamrock Run.

NOTES: The club's major fundraising project, its annual auction, will be held Aug. 20. No venue has been decided. ... The club voted to reimburse basketball coach Will Biggs $160 for practice jerseys.
