The Marshfield Pirates tightened their grip on second place in the Far West League girls basketball race Tuesday, defeating the visiting Siuslaw Vikings, 43-28.
Marshfield is now 5-2 in league and 14-7 overall, while Siuslaw is 1-6 and 5-14.
The Vikings host first-place Brookings-Harbor (7-0, 17-4) at 6 p.m. Friday at Glen Butler Court.
Brookings-Harbor is ranked No. 3 in the state among 4A schools by the Oregon School Activities Association.
In other league games Tuesday, Brookings-Harbor beat Douglas at Winston, 56-52, and North Bend overwhelmed visiting South Umpqua, 68-16.
Tuesday, senior Taylor Dotson led the Vikings with team highs of 7 points and 9 rebounds. Senior Sierra Potter added 6 points on a pair of 3-point shots and had 7 of Siuslaw's 11 steals.
Junior Destinie Tatum had 5 points, 8 rebounds and both of the Vikings' assists.
Siuslaw closes its season next week with a home game Tuesday, Feb. 16, against Douglas and a road trip to North Bend on Friday, Feb. 19.
Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. tipoffs.
