Softball: Vikings drop two games on Good Friday

Senior cleanup hitter Taylor Dotson was 4-for-8 Friday with a three-run home run in two games.

It finally was a good day for softball. A good day to play two.

But it wasn't a good day for the Siuslaw Vikings, who lost single games to Harrisburg and Reedsport on Good Friday in Reedsport.

Host Reedsport pushed across four runs in the first inning and held on for a 5-4 victory over Siuslaw in the nightcap of a tripleheader at the Braves' home field.

Harrisburg routed Reedsport in the opener in five innings, 13-2, in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

The Eagles finished their day 2-0 with an 11-2 thumping of the Vikings in Game 2 of the tripleheader.

Siuslaw is now 1-2 on the season, Harrisburg 2-1 and Reedsport 1-2.

Vikings senior Taylor Dotson was 4-for-8 in the two games, including a three-run home run against Reedsport.

Friday's games were the first since March 17, when Siuslaw opened its season with a 5-3 victory at Waldport. Since then, the Vikings have had doubleheaders with Philomath and Cottage Grove scrubbed because of the weather and unplayable field conditions.

Siuslaw has four more nonleague games next week: Tuesday at No. 1-ranked and 7-0 Elmira; the Vikings' home opener at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Sutherlin, and a doubleheader Saturday at Junction City.

The Vikings complete nonleague play on Tuesday, April 5, at Tillamook, then open the Far West League with a doubleheader on Friday, April 8, at Marshfield.
