Softball: Viking shut out at Elmira, 7-0


The Siuslaw Vikings opened spring practice Feb. 29. They played their first game March 17.

At 4:30 p.m. today they finally will play their first home game, entertaining Sutherlin.

Siuslaw will host another nonleague game at 2 p.m. against Junction City. The teams originally were scheduled for a doubleheader, starting at noon.

Siuslaw wraps up preleague play with a game Tuesday, April 5, at Tillamook.

The Vikings open Far West League play Friday, April 8, at Marshfield. First pitch is 3 p.m.

Tuesday, Miranda Jensen tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out seven, to lead Elmira to a 7-0 victory over the visiting Vikings.

Elmira improved to 8-0 on the season and is now rated No. 2 among 4A schools by the Oregon School Activities Association.

Siuslaw fell to 1-3 and is rated No. 18 among 39 schools in 4A.

Senior shortstop Anna Petras and junior catcher Nikki Launius were each 1-for-3 for the Vikings.
