Reavis closes in on school shot put record

The oldest boys' school record in the history of Siuslaw High School track and field is under assault by sophomore Trent Reavis.

Reavis won the shot put Saturday at the Junction City Invitational with a heave of 51 feet, 2.5 inches, less than a foot off Bruce Plaep's school record of 52-1 set in 1972.

He also won the discus at 133-5 and placed fifth in the javelin at 139-6.

Freshman Murray Bingham was the only other Viking boy to win as he and junior Jack Pickell finished 1-2 in the 3,000 meters, Bingham in 9:47.46a and Pickell in 9:50.14a.

The Siuslaw girls were dominant, winning nine events and placing well in others.

Senior Mikaela Siegel, the defending state champion in the 100 high hurdles, won that event in 16.38a and added the triple-jump title at 33 feet, 2.5 inches.

Junior Morgan Bingham also won two events for the Vikings, the 800 in 2:25.41a and the 3,000 in 11:21.42a.

Junior Celie Mans won the 1,500 in 5:01.59a, nearly a half minute faster than the nearest competitor.

Junior Carissa Oliver won the discus at 115-9.

Junior Abby Watkins won the long jump at 15-9.5 and junior Destinie Tatum shared the high jump title at 4-8.

Siuslaw's girls 4x400 relay team of Annmarie Precht, Celie Mans, Kaeli Ramos and Destinie Tatum won by more than 12 seconds in 4:20.48a.
