Viking freshmen post victories at JV meet


Siuslaw Vikings freshmen Calin Mason, Kaeli Ramos and Annabel Tupua triumphed at a Far West League junior varsity track and field meet Tuesday at Hans Petersen Field.

No team scores were posted, with athletes from Marshfield, North Bend, South Umpqua and nonleague Mapleton also competing.

Mason won the 100 in 13.95a and was second in the 200 in 29.30a.

Ramos won the 400 in 1:04.33a and the 3,000 in 12:23.37a.

Tupua had a mark of 32 feet, 6 inches to edge senior Vanessa Gajdosova of North Bend by 2 inches in a field of 21.

Senior Sierra Potter won the 300 hurdles in 56.70a.

On the boys' side, Vikings junior Jack Pickell won the 1,500 in 4:27.78a and sophomore Isaac Griffes the 3,000 in 10:14.68a.

Marshfield dominated the meet, winning 21 of 32 events, including 9 of 15 girls and 12 of 17 boys.
