Sophomore Cody Testa tossed a five-hit shutout Tuesday to lead the Brookings-Harbor Bruins to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Siuslaw Vikings in a Far West League baseball game.
The Bruins improved to 2-1 in league and 8-6 overall. The Vikings fell to 1-2 in league and 4-7 overall.
Siuslaw next plays Douglas in a doubleheader Friday in Winston. First pitch is 3 p.m.
Left-hander Gabe Simington, a freshman at Mapleton, took the loss in his first league start, striking out nine, walking three and allowing six hits.
Brookings-Harbor broke through for a run in the bottom of the third. With one out, Noah James singled, Testa doubled and David Freeman lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score a run.
The Bruins added two runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Freeman and a run-producing error.
Testa had seven strikeouts and three walks in the game, and pounded a pair of doubles hitting out of the 3 hole.
Kenneth Thrall was 2-for-3 for the Vikings with a pair of singles and a walk.
Siuslaw stranded nine runners in the game, including three in the first inning when the Vikings loaded the bases with one out. Testa pitched out of the predicament with back-to-back strikeouts.
