Siuslaw hosts Central Coast Invite on Friday


Siuslaw Vikings track and field athletes soon will be competing far and farther yet as the final month of the season looms.

Friday may be your best chance to see them in person as the school hosts the Central Coast Invitational at Hans Petersen Field.

Field events begin at 4 p.m., track events at 5:30 p.m.

Schools entered include:

  • 1A Elkton,
  • 2A Gold Beach, Oakland and Toledo,
  • 4A Marshfield, North Bend, Siuslaw and Sutherlin,
  • 5A Dallas and
  • 6A Roseburg.

The Vikings have several athletes with top 10 marks among 4A schools, including:

Boys

  • Murray Bingham, 5th in the 1,500
  • Jack Pickell, 10th in the 3,000
  • Trent Reavis, 2nd in shot put, 5th in discus

Girls

  • Annmarie Precht, 4th in 100, 5th in 200, 3rd in long jump
  • Destinie Tatum, 7th in 400, tied for 9th in high jump
  • Morgan Bingham, 5th in 800, 4th in 1,500, 4th in 3,000
  • Celie Mans, 10th in 800, 2nd in 1,500, 3rd in 3,000
  • Mikaela Siegel, 1st in 100 hurdles, 2nd in 300 hurdles, 5th in triple jump
  • Carissa Oliver, 6th in shot put, 2nd in discus
  • Abby Watkins, tied for 8th in long jump
  • The 4x100 relay team is 5th and 4x400 relay team 2nd

The Vikings close out their season with meets Saturday in Gresham, April 29 in Portland, April 30 in Grants Pass, May 6 in Cottage Grove, May 13-14 in Winston (Far West League championships) and May 20-21 in Eugene (state championships).

OREGON RELAYS

Siuslaw junior Carissa Oliver tossed the discus a personal-best 124 feet, 11 inches Friday to finish fifth place in the high school division of the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field.

Oliver currently has the second-best discus throw in the state this season among 4A girls. Oliver also finished 11th in the shot put with a personal-best 36-8.25.

Oliver was one of 13 Vikings who competed Friday and Saturday in the elite annual event.

In boys events:

  • Sophomore Trent Reavis was 14th in the shot put at 46-6.75, 20th in the discus at 134-2 and 34th in the javelin at 99-5
  • Murray Bingham was seventh in the freshmen 3,000 meters in 9:18.81a (PR)
  • Sophomore Josh Payne was fourth in both the wheelchair 100 in 21.59a (PR) and wheelchair 400 in 1:27.75a (PR)

In other girls events:

  • Junior Annmarie Precht was 26th in the 100 in 12.97aw (PR) and 12th in the long jump at 16-2.5
  • Junior Destinie Tatum was 17th in the 400 meters in 1:01.44a
  • Freshman Kaeli Ramos was 32nd in the 400 meters in 1:03.88a (PR)
  • Junior Morgan Bingham was 25th in the 800 in 2:24.90a (PR) and 16th in the 3,000 in 10:45.36a (PR)
  • Junior Celie Mans was 17th in the 1,500 in 4:52.25a
  • Senior Mikaela Siegel was ninth in the 100 hurdles in 16.12a and 15th in the 300 hurdles in 48.25a
  • Sophomore Kaylee Graham was 29th in the 100 hurdles in 17.49a and 42nd in the 300 hurdles in 51.07a
  • Freshman Annabel Tupua was 32nd in the shot put at 29-0.5
  • Junior Abby Watkins was 27th in the long jump at 14-4
  • The Vikings 4x100 relay team of Watkins, Tatum, Graham and Precht was 29th in 52.21a
  • The Vikings 4x400 relay team of Ramos, Precht, Siegel and Tatum was 13th in 4:11.86a

UP & COMERS JV INVITE

Siuslaw junior Jack Pickell and senior teammate Tyler Williams won two events each Friday at the Up & Comers JV Invite track and field meet at Philomath High School.

Pickell won the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:10.31a and the 1,500 in a personal-best 4:25.48a, while Williams was first in the 200 in 24.83a and the 400 in a personal-best 54.00a.

Vikings field specialists Dylan Jennings and Marshall Teter, both seniors, also won, Jennings the shot put at 39 feet, 8 inches and Teter the javelin in matching his personal-best 140-8.

Siuslaw senior Sierra Potter won the 100 hurdles in a personal-best 19.65a. She also was second in both the 300 hurdles in a personal-best 55.90a and the triple jump at 26 feet even.
