First-inning slam lifts Bulldogs past Vikings


Cheyenne Datan fired a 2-hit, 5-inning shutout and Carlie Pacquette crushed a first-inning grand slam Tuesday to lead the North Bend Bulldogs to a 10-0 victory over the visiting Siuslaw Vikings in a Far West League softball game cut short by the mercy rule.

Siuslaw fell to 1-5 in league and 4-9 overall.

North Bend, 5-1 and 9-3, plays Douglas in a doubleheader Friday in a matchup of the league's top teams.

Douglas improved to 6-0 in league Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over Marshfield.

Elsewhere, South Umpqua beat Brookings-Harbor, 14-7, handing the Bruins their 14th straight loss.

The Vikings will travel to Myrtle Creek on Friday for a doubleheader with South Umpqua, 4-2 and 11-6.

Siuslaw opens the second half of league play with a home game Tuesday against Marshfield. First pitch is 5 p.m.

NOTE

Siuslaw third baseman Taylor Dotson was named Coast Radio's Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. ... Dotson was 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs in the Vikings' 12-11 victory over Brookings-Harbor. ...
