Vikings girls post seven wins Friday night

Siuslaw junior Destinie Tatum and sophomore Trent Reavis won two events each Friday in the Central Coast Invitational track and field meet at Hans Petersen Field.

Tatum won the girls 800 meters in a personal-record 2 minutes, 25.16a seconds and the high jump at 4 foot, 10 inches, matching her personal record.

Tatum also anchored the winning girls 4x400 relay team which won in 4:10.75a, a Hans Petersen Field record and the fastest time in 4A this season. Other team members were Kaeli Ramos, Morgan Bingham and Annmarie Precht.

Reavis won the boys shot put at 48-10.5 and the discus at a personal-best 138-4.

"We usually have pretty good performances at home," Siuslaw coach Chris Johnson said. "It's good for the kids to compete where they practice every day."

Other winners for the Vikings girls were:

  • Junior Annmarie Precht in the 200 in a personal-record 26.69.a, the second-best time in 4A this season.
  • Freshman Kaeli Ramos in the 400 meters in a personal-record 1:03.55a.
  • Junior Carissa Oliver in the discus at 122-10. (Oliver placed second in the shot put with personal-record 37-4.)
  • Senior Mikaela Siegel in the triple jump at 33-6.5.

"Destinie and Mikaela have both been working on consistency in the jumps, fixing some bad habits," Johnson said. "So you'll see those (marks) continue to climb."

Johnson was happy with a number of performances, including that of Precht, a transfer from Florida, and freshman Murray Bingham, who didn't win an event but put up some nice times.

"Annmarie had another solid day in the long jump, and she made the (state's seasonal 4A) top 10 list in the 200, which is great," he said.

Bingham was second to North Bend's Michael Brown in the 1,500 and turned in a personal-record 2:03.22a in placing second on the heels of Dallas senior Cody Tilgner in the 800.

"Murray learned some lessons in the 1,500, I think," Johnson said. "He came back. I mean, a 2:03 for a freshman is a solid, solid 800 time. He's going to be fun to watch develop."

Marshfield won both the 10-school girls title and eight-school boys title. The Vikings were second in the girls competition, fourth in boys.
