Vikings rally to put away Pirates, 15-10


The Siuslaw Vikings scored in six of seven innings and Scott Gordon picked up a victory with some solid relief work Tuesday in a 15-10 victory over the Marshfield Pirates in a Far West League baseball game in Coos Bay.

Siuslaw is 3-6 in league and 6-11 overall. Marshfield fell to 1-8 and 3-13. The Vikings won the three-game season series with the Pirates, 2-1.

Siuslaw is now tied with Douglas for fourth place in league, and still retains postseason playoff hopes.

First-place North Douglas improved to 8-1 in league and 13-4 overall with a 2-0 victory over South Umpqua.

South Umpqua slipped into a two-way tie for second place with Brookings-Harbor, both teams 6-3.

The Vikings host Brookings-Harbor in a doubleheader Friday. First pitch is 3 p.m.

Eight Vikings scored in Tuesday's rollercoaster of a game, which featured 5 lead changes, 12 errors, 10 walks, 9 unearned runs and 8 hit batsmen.

Gordon and Caleb Paredes scored three times each, while Kenneth Thrall, Michael Mason and Brogan Cornish each scored twice.

Gordon, batting leadoff, was on base all six at bats with 3 walks, 2 singles and a fielder's choice.

Thrall was 3-for-6 batting in the 2 hole.
