Pirates score 11 in seventh to beat Vikings


Marshfield senior outfielder Sidney Baarstad was 3-for-4 with a double and an inside-the-park home run Tuesday to lead the Pirates to a 15-2 victory over the Siuslaw Vikings in a Far West League softball game at Siuslaw.

The Pirates plated 11 runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a close game.

Siuslaw slipped to 1-8 in league and 4-12 overall. Marshfield is 5-4 and 10-7, including a sweep of all three games with the Vikings this season.

The Vikings next play a doubleheader on Friday at Brookings-Harbor. First pitch is 3 p.m.

Siuslaw had nine hits against Marshfield junior Mackenzie Johnson, an all-league pitcher in 2015.

Vikings senior shortstop Anna Petras was 2-for-4 with a triple, junior first baseman Claire Waggoner was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, junior pitcher Heidi Jones was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases and junior Anna Stonelake was 2-for-3.

Johnson picked up the win for the Pirates, striking out 7. Jones took the loss for the Vikings, striking out 8.
