Vikings band to compete for state 4A title

The Siuslaw High School band is headed to the Oregon School Activities Association state championships, May 11-14 on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis.

"The students are really excited and have been working hard to prepare these pieces," band director and Siuslaw High School teacher Chris Rowbotham said.

The Vikings' band is one of 11 schools competing for the 4A band title Wednesday, May 11, at the LaSells Stewart Center.

Siuslaw will be the first band up after lunch, with a warmup starting at 11:30 a.m., a performance at noon and a sight-read event at 12:30 p.m.

Defending 4A champion North Bend will be the last 4A school on the schedule, with a performance at 5:45 p.m. and a sight-read at 6:15.

An awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m.

Other 4A schools competing include La Grande, Gladstone, Mazama, South Umpqua, Cascade, Scappoose, Douglas, Philomath and Seaside.
