Kyle Terry, Leah Card win 10-mile trail run

Kyle Terry won the men's race by more than 12 minutes and Leah Card beat defending champion Tia Gabalita by 32 seconds for the women's title Saturday at the annual Cape Mountain Trail Run on the Horse Creek Trail System north of Florence.

The race is organized by Jim Archer as a fundraiser for the Siuslaw High School cross-country team, and is sponsored by Peace Health Medical Center.

Terry, of Florence, ran the 10-mile course in 1 hour, 14 minutes. Joe Griffin was second in 1:26:29 and Steve Moser third in 1:27:12.

Card, also of Florence and a former Siuslaw High School runner, was timed in 1:42:35. She won the recent Rhody Run 10K (6.2 miles) in 44:19.

Gabalita finished in 1:43:07, while Geraldine Lucio was third in 1:50:30.

In the 4-mile race, Jason Townsend of Bend won the men's race in 30:19 and Katie Nelson of Alabama the women's race in 34:14.

Alan Porter was second in 30:36 and Robert Mans third in 35:18 among the men.

Rachelle Krause-Campbell was second in 37:14 and Beth Casper third in 39:16 among the women.

There were 28 finishers in the 10-mile event, 11 females and 17 males, finishing in an average time of 1:52:09.

The 4-mile event had 33 finishers, 22 females and 11 males with an average time of 58:35.
