The Siuslaw Athletic Booster Club netted more than $50,000 for last Saturday's auction-dinner, according to the club's website.

"I'm pretty confident with the $50,000, but it will be a while until all final numbers are in," SABC auction chair Jennifer King Waggoner said.

The SABC raises money to fund Siuslaw High School and Siuslaw Middle School programs.

This year's auction-dinner was called the "Booster Barn Bash" and was held at the Bob and Kay King family farm on the North Fork of the Siuslaw River. Some 250 Vikings supporters attended.

Waggoner gave special thanks to a group and to an individual.

"It was pretty cool to have former Hall of Fame inductees respond to our request for donations of an auction item," she said. "Together they contributed enough to purchase the flaming wine barrel which was a very popular auction item.

"We will do that again."

She also was grateful to her predecessor.

"I was fortunate to have had auction chair Tammy Butler lay the groundwork in so many areas of the auction," Waggoner said. "Many of Tammy's established processes and connections only required a phone call because of her years of nurturing those relationships so well."

If you missed the auction, or enjoyed it, you will get a second chance next year.

"I'm chairing and hosting at the barn one more year, and will prep someone to hand off to for the following year," Waggoner said.

"It was a lot of fun and I had an amazing, hard-working and talented team — a great mix of veteran experience and fresh new ideas."

Waggoner expects next year's auction to be bigger and better.

"I hope to improve on some of the things, like better sound and a less-crowded silent auction area by creating more space," she said. "Plus we have some surprise ideas up our sleeve to keep it exciting."

The first monthly meeting of the booster club for the upcoming school year is Monday, Aug. 29, at the high school library.
