Siuslaw senior Celie Mans takes her last shot at a North Bend Tugman Invitational title Wednesday after runnerup finishes her first three years.

Mans finished second to Bandon's Sailor Hutton the past two years and was second to Marshfield's Shaylen Crook as a freshman in 2013.

Hutton returns to defend her title, with the girls varsity race scheduled for 4 p.m. Hutton has run two races this fall, with a season best of 18 minutes, 48.8 seconds.

Mans ran her season-opening 5,000 meters in 19:25.6 Saturday to place 10th in the varsity girls division of the Ash Creek XC Festival in Monmouth.

Also Wednesday, the boys varsity will run at 4:35 p.m. and the junior varsity boys and girls combined race at 5:10 p.m. The meet is at Tugman State Park, just north of North Bend.

Schools entered include all six from the Far West League — Siuslaw, Brookings-Harbor, Douglas, Marshfield, North Bend and South Umpqua.

Also entered are eight lower-classification schools, including Bandon, Coquille, Crow, Gold Beach, Myrtle Point, Pacific, Reedsport and Waldport.

Saturday at Ash Creek, Mans was the lone Vikings entry in girls varsity, while the Siuslaw boys varsity team placed 24th among 35 schools. In junior varsity races, the Siuslaw boys were 13th among 33 schools and the girls were 11th among 22 schools.

This coming week, Siuslaw also is entered in the Northwest Classic at Lane Community College on Saturday in Eugene.

The Vikings' big home race, the Woahink Lake Invitational, is Saturday, Oct. 1, at Honeyman State Park.
