Hutton, Mans finish 1-2 at Paul Mariman

Bandon junior Sailor Hutton and Siuslaw senior Celie Mans finished 1-2 Saturday in the girls varsity race at the Paul Mariman Invitational cross country meet in Philomath.

Hutton won the 5,000-meter race in 18 minutes, 50.4 seconds, with Mans second in 19:13.6.

Mans had won the race the three previous years, including her best time in the event of 18:39.0 in 2015.

The Siuslaw girls were fifth in the 19-school team scoring with 167 points. Host Philomath won with 109, with Sisters second with 119.

For the Vikings, freshman Hannah Rannow was 25th in a personal-record 22:21.0, freshman Anne Wartnik 33rd in 22:49.2, freshman Chloe Madden 44th in 23:35.3 and senior Destinie Tatum 63rd in 24:17.5.

Siuslaw freshman Bryn Clement was a nonscoring 67th in a PR 24:29.5 and senior Annmarie Precht 94th in 26:09.2 in her debut race.

Siuslaw's varsity boys team placed fifth in a field of 25, with runners finishing 19th, 27th, 51st, 52nd, 62nd and a nonscoring 73rd.

Junior Isaac Griffes had the Vikings' best time of 17:52.9, followed by senior Jack Pickell in 18:08.8, junior Jordan Northrop in 18:44.4, freshman Brendon Jensen in 18:45.9, freshman Kiger Johnson in 19:04.1 and freshman Jonah Jarman in 19:14.6.

Senior Michael Brown of North Bend won the boys varsity race in 16:37.5, followed by John Kavulich of Scappoose in 16:45.2 and Hunter Hutton of Bandon in 16:51.0.

Siuslaw won the boys junior varsity race with 63 points, with the Vikings finishing 3-4-5-8 and 43.

Senior Ryan Alletson ran a 19:24.5, freshman Jared Northrop 19:27.9, senior Sean Burns 19:28.2, senior Clark Hooper 19:44.3 and sophomore Robert Mans 21:26.9. The Vikings entered the minimum five runners in the team race.

Siuslaw did not enter the girls junior varsity race.

Next up for the Vikings is the George Fox Classic next Saturday.

Siuslaw's annual Run for the Brownies is Oct. 20 at Sandpines Golf Links.

The Far West League championships are Oct. 27 at Tugman State Park and the Oregon School Activities Association state championships Nov. 5 at Lane Community College in Eugene.
