The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team needs a victory Thursday night (Oct. 13) to clinch at least a share of the Far West League title.

The Vikings host North Bend at Glenn Butler Court at 6:30 p.m. on senior recognition night.

Siuslaw and Douglas enter the night tied for the league lead at 7-2, with North Bend a game back at 6-3.

Siuslaw could clinch the title outright with a win and a Douglas loss.

Douglas could clinch the title outright with a win and a Siuslaw loss.

And North Bend could share the title with a win and a Douglas loss.

The Vikings dropped into a two-way tie for first place on Tuesday following a 3-1 loss to Douglas at Winston. Douglas won 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23.

"We played tough in each set and held leads in each," Siuslaw coach Jon Hornung said, "but Douglas stepped up when it counted. Our block was strong, as was our defense.

"We passed well on serve receive early in each set but it was sketchy at the end of each set and allowed Douglas to come back and win the first, third and fourth sets. We had a chance to go up 21-17 in the fourth set but we couldn't convert, and then Douglas went on a run to finish the match."

Douglas coach Carl Bone said: "This was a huge win for us. Our girls have worked so hard. Siuslaw is a very good team and both times we played them, they bring out the best in us. Every set just seems so intense. We both have tough games coming up."

Siuslaw is now 10-7 overall and ranked No. 16 among Class 4A schools by the Oregon School Activities Association.

Douglas is 10-5 and No. 11.

Also Tuesday, North Bend swept Brookings-Harbor, 3-0, and South Umpqua beat Marshfield, 3-1.
