Siuslaw, Douglas dominate league honors

Siuslaw Vikings sophomore middle blocker Makenzie York was named co-most valuable player and Jon Hornung co-coach of the year Tuesday in a vote of Far West League volleyball coaches.

Douglas senior middle blocker Darian Mitchell and her coach, Carl Bone, shared those honors.

Joining York on the first team were Vikings senior middle blocker Elyssa Rose and junior libero Maci Wells.

Rose and York also were first team in 2015.

Outside hitter Brittany Long, a senior, was named to the second team. Junior outside hitter Emma Collins earned honorable mention honors.

Siuslaw and Douglas shared the league title at 8-2, with the Vikings winning a one-match playoff for the top seed in the state playoffs.
