Three Vikings in championship contention

Siuslaw Vikings wrestlers Richard Huff, Scott Simmons and Kainan Lane advanced in the championship round in the first day of the Army Strong Coast Classic at North Bend High School.

Crook County leads the 30-school tournament with 79 points after Friday, the first day of the two-day event. Roseburg is second with 73, while Siuslaw shares 16th with West Salem with 20 points.

Huff, seeded No. 4 at 120 pounds, pinned Cole Zoller of North Medford in 2 minutes in his only match of the day.

Simmons, seeded No. 12 at 145, scored two pins on the day, dispatching Tanner Crane of Junction City in 1 minute, 6 seconds in the first round and No. 5 seed Bryce Cwiklinski of Crater in 3:33 in the second round.

Lane, seeded No. 5 at 285, had a bye in the first round and pinned John Dover of Junction City in 1:58 in the second round.

Vikings 126-pounder Quincy Rusk was pinned by Canby's Jordan Petersen in 40 seconds in the first round, then lost to Ethan Miller of North Medford, 8-1, in consolation.

Vikings 160-pounder Jesus Sierra was pinned by Dominic Chimienti of Clackamas in 32 seconds in the first round, then lost to by fall to Colson Turner of Del Norte (Crescent City, Calif.) in 56 seconds in consolation.
