Vikings' Huff finishes fourth at North Bend

Siuslaw Vikings junior wrestler Richard Huff split his four matches Saturday to finish fourth at 120 pounds in the 30-school Army Strong Coast Classic at North Bend.

Huff was pinned by Thomas Spence of Roseburg in 5 minutes, 17 seconds in the match for third and fourth places.

Earlier, Huff beat Kaleb Murphy of Grants Pass 15-3 in the championship quarterfinals. Huff then lost by pin in the semifinals to top seed Legend Lamer of Crescent Valley in 1:36.

In the consolation round, Huff pinned Hunter Grant of Crater in 4:56 to advance to the match with Spence.

Vikings senior Kainan Lane was 1-3 Saturday, opening with a pin of Kaimana Wa'a of Crescent Valley in 3:23 in their championship quarterfinals match at 285.

Lane then lost three matches by pin, to top seed Taylor Mottern of Canby in the championship semifinals in 21 seconds, then in consolation to Wyatt Stigman of Crook County in 1:46 and to Lane Hersha of South Albany in 36 seconds. Lane placed sixth in the tournament.

Siuslaw senior Scott Simmons lost both his matches Saturday, by major decision to Garrett Lefebvre of Marshfield in the championship quarterfinals, 13-5, and by pin in 2:50 to Robert Cobb of Crook County in consolation.

Roseburg had a commanding lead in the team race entering Saturday night's championship finals with 271 points. Crook County was second with 216.5. Siuslaw was 19th with 40.

The Vikings next will compete Friday and Saturday at the Grants Pass Winter Kickoff.
