Siuslaw senior Destinie Tatum dropped in 19 points Friday as the Vikings opened the Far West League girls basketball season with a 47-31 victory over the South Umpqua Lancers at Glenn Butler Court.

Siuslaw improved to 6-8 overall, while South Umpqua fell to 4-11.

The Vikings next play Marshfield at Coos Bay at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Tatum was 7-for-13 from the floor and 5-for-5 from the line for her 19 points.

Seniors Brittany Long (8), Claire Waggoner (6) and Abby Watkins (5) contributed 19 points for the Vikings.

Siuslaw hit 15 of 19 free throws in the game (a season-high 79 percent) and 16 of 49 field goals (33 percent).

In other league openers, North Bend beat visiting Douglas 57-50 and Marshfield won at Brookings-Harbor, 41-37.
