John Weatherwax and James Smith posted a 1-point victory Thursday in a highly competitive weekly meeting of the Florence Duplicate Bridge Club at St. Andrew's Church.

Weatherwax and Smith scored 29.25, while the teams of Roberta Parker-Marian Weiss and Doreen MacNeil-Louise Johns scored 28.25.

Georgia Farman and John Reisner were fourth with 27.5 points.

The club celebrated the birthday of one of its founding members, Anna Hendershot, who turned 90 Thursday.

The Florence club is Oregon Central Coast unit 572 of the American Contract Bridge League, which sanctions the weekly games.

Club play is 12:30 p.m. Thursdays at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 19th and Tamarack.
