The Siuslaw Vikings may be heading back to the Sky-Em League after more than a decade away under one of the most-recent districting and classification models under consideration by the Oregon School Activities Association.
So it's goodbye to possible road trips to Grants Pass and Medford (under one now-discarded model) and hello to possible travel dates at La Pine and Sisters by fall 2018.
The OSAA's Classification and Districting Committee for the 2018-2022 four-year time block had its fourth public hearing Monday, Jan. 30.
Tuesday, Feb. 7, the committee released revised versions of the six-classification model, the five-classification model and the football-only model.
Under the proposed six-classification model, Siuslaw would be part of a Class 4A Far West League that includes:
Under a significantly revised five-classification model, Siuslaw would be part of a Class 3A Sky-Em League that includes:
The above model eliminates trips of more than 3 hours, one way, to Brookings, Grants Pass and Medford, but replaces them with Central Oregon trips to La Pine and Sisters.
The previous draft had Siuslaw in a Southern Cascade League with Brookings-Harbor, Cascade (Medford), Douglas, Hidden Valley (Grants Pass), North Valley (Grants Pass), St. Mary's (Medford), South Umpqua and Sutherlin.

Next meeting for the committee is 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at the OSAA office in Wilsonville.
The committee will hold public testimony in the morning followed by a closed work session later in the day.
