Vikings bowlers head to state this weekend

The Siuslaw Vikings' seasoned varsity boys and girls bowling teams take aim at state titles Saturday and Sunday at the KingPins Lanes in Portland.

"Most of the kids were at the state tournament last year," boys coach Kathy Anderson said. "We hope to build on that experience, and the momentum from a very good season."

The boys' team, led by Patrick Hill, includes Cesar Castillo, Kainunn Harrison, Logan Lindner, Evan Johnson and Neil DeVera.

The girls' team is led by Abby Coday and Maxine Jones and includes Teryn Larson, Dixie Dyess and Elissa Hurley. The girls are coached by Holiday Bowl general manager Dusty Anderson, Kathy Anderson's brother-in-law.

"We will be bowling 24 baker games on Saturday, an additional  six games of qualifying on Sunday morning, followed by two-game match double elimination finals," Kathy Anderson said.

"The top three teams will win awards. The top qualifying team as well as the individual all stars will be awarded scholarship money based on Saturday's qualifying scores."

The tournament is under the aegis of the Oregon State United States Bowling Congress (OSUSBC).

The KingPins Family Entertainment Center is at 3550 S.E. 92nd Avenue in Portland.
